I am the vine,
you are the branches.

Anyone who remains united to me, with me united to him, will be very fruitful, for you cannot do anything apart from me

(John 15:5)

 If,
as it seems,
a person is defined by his relationships
to others,
it is significant that
often in Matthew's
infancy narrative,
the reference is to
"the child and his mother."
In other words,
Mary
is not designated
by name
but
by her quality as
"
His mother."
She draws
her identity
from the
Child.

This stands
as an
ideal for us;
that people should
think and speak of us
in terms of
Christ.
