Always, wherever we may be, we carry with us in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus, too, may always be seen in our body.   Indeed, while we are still alive, we are consigned to our death every day, for the sake of Jesus, so that in our mortal flesh the life of Jesus, too, may be openly shown.

(2 Cor 4:10-12)

 "And they left
the presence of the council,
rejoicing that they
had been found worthy
to suffer indignity
for Jesus' name."  (Acts 5:41)

No need to imagine
that the Apostles
were indulging
a sadistic tendency
in taking pleasure
out of this moment.
It is just that
they understood profoundly:
that hardship endured for someone
is the most
brazenly incontrovertible proof
of love
for that person
And so
they rejoiced
at having had to suffer
on account of Jesus.
