"Bel crouches, Nebo cowers.
They cannot rescue the load
but themselves go into captivity"
(Isaiah 46:1)
Bel and Nebo
were the chief
deities of Babylon.
But
as Isaiah
sardonically point out,
in time of trouble
the people of
Babylon
had to rescue
them
rather than the
reverse,
as one would expect.
Regrettably
this is just as true
of the idols
you have
so confidently
installed in your
life:
They are powerless
to save.
