Devotion to the
Saints is
a fading value among
us.
It has become
badly declassé.
For it seems to many
so terribly naive in
his age
of theological
sophistication
to turn to persons
who,
when they lived on
earth.
more often than not
passed for
mere peasants or
simple folk.
What can such people
contribute
to us?
They can lead us to
God!
For all their
littleness,
or perhaps,
because of it,
they can speak to us
of God
with very great
impact.
Perhaps,
we have dismissed
the saints
too hastily
from our faith
experience.
Perhaps we believe
they are beneath our
notice;
they are unhelpful
to modern man.
And yet,
they may be saying
to us
the very things
we have to hear.
