God's
love stays constant
through the thick and thin
contingencies of life.
Even in the bleak
and trying moments
of our existence
God's love is alive
and beaming.
It is like a star:
in bright sunlight,
though invisible,
it is nonetheless there,
strongly there;
in turbulent weather, in cloudiness and fog,
it remains fixed and
firm and shining.
The only response
that one can make
to such unfaltering love
is to say with the Psalmist:
"I look to no one else
in Heaven,
I delight in nothing else
on earth.
My heart's Rock, my own,
God for ever!"
